Drift games unblocked: which ones actually drift

Search drift games unblocked and you get a hundred results, and most of them are ordinary driving games with the word bolted on, because the word gets clicks.

The short answer: Drift Hunters and Drift Hunters MAX are proper drift games with tuning behind them, Burnout Drift is the next best and runs on weaker machines, Drift Fever on this page is a scoring game built on angle and risk, and Drift Boss and Sling Drift are excellent timing games that are not really drifting at all.

Below is how that list was arrived at, so you can apply the same test to anything else you find.

What drifting actually is

In a real car, a drift is deliberate loss of grip at the back. You break traction on purpose going into a corner, the rear steps out, and then you hold the car sideways all the way through by balancing steering against throttle. Starting a slide is easy. Not ending it early is the skill.

That turns into three things worth looking for in a game.

Weight transfer. The car should feel like it has mass moving about it. If turning is instant and the car pivots on the spot, nothing is sliding.

Counter-steer. Once the back is out, you have to steer into the slide to hold it. A game where you simply keep turning the way you are already going is not simulating a drift, it is simulating a corner.

A score for angle and duration. A real drift score rises with how sideways you are and how long you hold it, and it chains across linked corners. A score that only counts distance is measuring survival.

Judge everything below against those three.

1. Drift Hunters

The one people mean. Weight transfer, counter-steer, and a score built on angle and speed that multiplies while you stay sideways and resets when you spin or straighten. On top of that there is a garage: twenty-six cars, ten tracks, and tuning across engine, turbo, gearbox, brakes and weight.

The grind is real. Cars start unlocking at around 8,500 points and the most expensive is over 130,000, so this is a game you come back to rather than finish.

The catch is size. It was built in Unity and runs through WebGL, which means the 3D engine loads before anything appears and older machines struggle. What to do about that, plus how to earn credits faster and which of the four games called Drift Hunters is which, is on our Drift Hunters page.

Controls: WASD or arrows, space handbrake, C to change camera, left shift and left ctrl to shift gears manually.

2. Drift Hunters MAX

The sequel, made by the same person with the Drifted team, and only available on their site. Same handling model with more behind it: the old cars plus around eleven new ones, AI traffic and street drifting rather than empty circuits, and unlike the original it was built to work on phones.

It is heavier than the original, so it is the wrong choice if the original was already struggling. If your machine can take it, this is the best browser drift game there is.

Play it: drifted.com/drift-hunters-max.

3. Burnout Drift

Full 3D drifting with a points system and cars to unlock, made by BoneCracker Games. Three tracks, and a car list running from sensible drift builds up to supercars that are far too much for the job, which is half the fun.

The handling is looser than Drift Hunters and takes longer to get on with. That is a fair trade for a game that will still run when the other one will not, and its lightest track is genuinely playable on hardware that cannot manage Drift Hunters at all.

One catch: it is desktop only. It does not run in a phone browser.

Play it: CrazyGames.

4. Drift Fever

This is ours, so read it with that in mind. It is on this list at number four because it is honest about being a scoring game rather than a simulator.

It is built entirely around the third item in the test above. There is no distance score. Points come from how sideways you are and how close to the edge of the road you hold it, and they chain while you stay there. The safe line through a corner is the one that pays least, which inverts what most driving games teach you.

The other design decision worth knowing: running wide does not end your run. There is a band at the edge of the road where you scrape, lose the chain and keep going, so a mistake grades down instead of stopping everything. That is deliberate, and it is the opposite of Drift Boss.

There is a new track every day and everyone in the world drives the same one, so scores compare directly. Your last run comes back as a ghost car to race.

Where it loses to the top three: no garage, no tuning, no engine to swap, no twenty-six cars, no ten tracks. The physics are simplified rather than simulated. It is a two-minute game. Where it wins: it is one file, so it opens instantly on a machine that gives up on the others, and it works properly on a phone.

Controls: left and right arrow keys, or the left and right halves of the screen on a phone.

5. Drift Boss

Barely a drift game and still absolutely worth playing. One button, a narrow ledge, and a car turning at every moment because there is no straight-ahead state. What it is testing is timing, not car control.

It has had a lot added recently, including skins, minigames, loot chests and a card system, plus three boosters you buy with coins. We have written up why the control makes it so hard, and which booster is worth using when, on our Drift Boss page.

Controls: hold space or the left mouse button. That is the whole game.

Play it: Coolmath Games.

6. Sling Drift

Not drifting at all, despite the name. There are hooks at the corners, you hold a key to swing round one, and you release on the way out. Nothing slides and nothing goes sideways.

It is on this list because it is honest fun, it loads in a second on anything, and the timing rhythm scratches a similar itch. Just do not go in expecting the top three. Made by Tastypill.

Controls: hold space through a corner, release to come off the hook.

Play it: Poki.

How to test any drift game in ten seconds

Start a slide, then keep turning the same way and do not correct.

If the car keeps rotating until it spins, there is real physics in it and you have found a drift game. If it just goes neatly round the corner, the word drift is decoration and you are playing a steering game.

Second test, if the first is ambiguous: watch the score while you are sideways. If it climbs faster the more sideways you are, angle is being measured. If it climbs at the same rate regardless, you are being paid for surviving.

Getting better at drifting in any of them

Be gentle. Smooth inputs hold a slide and stabbing at the keys kills it. This is the opposite of the instinct most browser games train.

Chain corners. In every game here that scores angle, the multiplier builds while you stay sideways and resets when you straighten. Four linked medium drifts beat one enormous one that ends in a spin.

Pick wide tracks while learning. Long sweeping corners with room to run off let you carry a slide from one corner into the next. Tight tracks with walls close in punish you long before they pay.

Do not over-power the car. In the tuning games, a car with far too much engine is harder to hold sideways, not easier. Upgrade grip and balance before power.

Quick answers

What is the best free drift game in a browser? Drift Hunters MAX if your machine can run it, Drift Hunters if you want the original, Burnout Drift if both stutter.

Which drift games work on a phone? Drift Hunters MAX, Drift Boss, Sling Drift and Drift Fever. The original Drift Hunters was built for a keyboard, and Burnout Drift is desktop only.

Is Drift Boss a real drift game? No. It is a one-button timing game and a very good one, but nothing in it slides.

What does drifting actually mean? Deliberately breaking traction at the rear and holding the car sideways through a corner with steering and throttle.

Which drift game has the most cars? Drift Hunters with twenty-six, all tuneable, or Drift Hunters MAX which adds around eleven more.

Which is the easiest to start with? Drift Boss or Sling Drift, because they are one input. For actual drifting, Burnout Drift is the gentlest introduction.

Do any of them have multiplayer? Not in the sense of racing side by side. Drift Fever puts everyone on the same track each day and gives you a ghost, which is the closest thing here.

For the other kinds of car game, the car games page sorts them by what each one is like to play.
